The app
What is Snag?
Snag: Hands-Free Capture, "Agent control, notes and tasks". It catches notes, tasks and voice captures and sends them where you work, and lets you talk to your own agents hands-free. On the home screen and in Siri it is "Snag".
Which devices?
iPhone only, iOS 18 or later. Some features need a later iOS: see Getting started and CarPlay.
Do I need an account?
No. Your Snag account is kept on the iPhone, with no sign-in. See Your Snag account.
Does Snag sync between devices?
No. Everything is on the one iPhone.
Capture
Where do captures go if nothing is connected?
Your Snag account, shown in Recent.
Can one capture go somewhere other than the default?
Yes, with Send to on the capture card. It appears once something is connected. See Snag Capture.
I connected a service but captures still only go to my Snag account.
Connecting never changes the default. Tap Make default on the connection's page, or answer yes to "Connected. Make it your default?". Your Snag account keeps a copy either way.
Why did a typed note get no actions?
Actions are found in voice captures. See Smart captures.
Can I share into Snag from another app?
There is no share sheet extension in this version. Drag or paste into the capture card.
Does Snag record in the background?
Only a recording you started. It carries on with the screen locked or another app in front, until it stops.
Why didn't Things, Apple Notes or Email-in get my Siri capture?
They need Snag on screen and send the next time Snag is open.
Can a retry make a duplicate?
No. Each delivery keeps its own key for every retry, and destinations that can be checked are checked first.
How long are captures kept?
Settings > On this iPhone > Keep captures for. 90 days unless changed.
How do I get my captures out?
Settings > Account > Delete account offers "Export my captures first" (JSON, no audio). The "Get last Snag" Shortcuts action returns the last capture.
Destinations
Why can't I connect a second service?
Free sends to your Snag account and one connection. Pro sends to every connection. See Free and Pro.
Why can't I connect Microsoft To Do, OneNote or Google Tasks?
Their sign-in is not available in this version. Snag hides them in Add a connection until their sign-in is available. Use Email-in or Send to a URL where the service accepts them.
Is Snag affiliated with the services it sends to?
No.
Snag Control and voice commands
Why is the Control tab locked?
Snag Control is part of Pro. See Snag Control.
Which agents work with Snag?
Any agent that speaks the Snag agent API, an OpenAI-compatible endpoint, or an agent in a Nextcloud Talk room. See Bring your own and For developers.
Why can't I approve a delete in the car?
Irreversible actions park in the car by default. A code word works only where the rule and the agent both allow it. See CarPlay.
Why didn't a private answer play out loud?
Private and Personal answers ask "Say it out loud?" first. Anything else keeps it for later, in Parked.
Does Snag write to my commands repo?
No. It only reads .snag/commands.yaml.
My repo change didn't take effect.
A change that calls a new address waits in "Changes to your commands" until accepted. If the last check failed, the accepted version keeps working.
Plans and privacy
Is Pro included in the TestFlight beta?
Yes, at no charge. Settings > Subscription shows "Beta: Pro included".
Does deleting my Snag account cancel Pro?
No. Apple bills Pro: cancel it in your Apple Account settings.
Is CarPlay free?
Capture on the car screen is free. Snag Control in the car is Pro.
Does Snag see my captures?
No. Captures stay on the iPhone or go straight from the iPhone to the services you connect. No ads, no analytics, no third-party code. See Privacy.
Where are my keys and tokens kept?
In the iPhone's Keychain, and sent only to the service they belong to.
