Your Snag account
Your Snag account is where every capture is kept. It is the default destination, and it keeps a copy of everything even when a capture also goes to one of your own tools, so nothing depends on another service being reachable.
Today your Snag account lives on this iPhone. There is no sign-in, nothing is uploaded and there is no sync between devices. In the app it reads "Kept on this iPhone."
What it keeps
| Item | Kept |
|---|---|
| Typed notes | The text and any photos or PDFs |
| Voice captures | The words and the recording |
| Tasks | The name, notes and where else it went |
| For each capture | When it was recorded, how long it ran, and which connections it went to |
Captures are stored in the app's own storage on the iPhone, protected by iOS data protection. They are included in the iPhone's own backups like any app data.
The default
New installs send every capture to your Snag account and nowhere else until you connect something.
- Connecting a service never changes the default by itself. The set-up ends with "Connected." and "Make it your default?": Make default makes it the default; Not now leaves the default where it was.
- Every capture still goes to your Snag account as well as to the default.
- To go back to your Snag account as the default: open Send to on the capture card, choose Just Snag and tap Make default. Disconnecting the default service also puts your Snag account back ("Captures go to your Snag account instead.").
- Settings > Connections lists only the services you connected, with "Everything is also kept in your Snag account." underneath.
In first run, the "Your Snag account" row can be unticked to make a service the default instead. See Getting started.
Recent
The Capture tab's Recent list is drawn from your Snag account, so it works with no network. It shows the newest 30 captures. A capture shows there the moment it is saved, before it has been sent anywhere. See Snag Capture for what each row means.
Swipe left on a row and tap Delete to remove that capture, its recording and files from the iPhone and from the send queue. Things already sent to your own tools stay there.
How long captures stay
Settings > On this iPhone > Keep captures for:
| Choice | Effect |
|---|---|
| 30 days | |
| 90 days | The default |
| 1 year | |
| Forever | Nothing is deleted by age |
"Older captures are deleted from this iPhone, recordings included." The check runs when Snag opens or comes to the front, and straight away when the setting changes.
Snag also has a ceiling of 500 captures on the phone, but it only ever removes captures that have been synced. As there is no sync in this version, nothing is removed by that ceiling today: the Keep captures for setting is what limits how much is kept.
Delete account
Settings > Account > Delete account.
- The page says what is deleted.
- With a Pro subscription bought in the App Store, a card says "Your Pro subscription isn't cancelled by this" / "Apple bills it. Cancel it in your Apple account, or it keeps renewing." Manage subscription opens Apple's page.
- "Export my captures first" shares every capture as a JSON file, "Snag captures.json". Recordings and photos are not in the file.
- Tap Delete account, then confirm "Delete your Snag account and every capture in it?" ("It can't be undone.").
- Every capture, recording and file, and everything waiting to send, is deleted from the iPhone. The page then reads "Deleted."
The footnote says what is not deleted: "Things already sent to Obsidian or Todoist stay there." (naming your connections). Your connections, settings and Pro stay as they are.
