CarPlay
Snag for CarPlay puts capture and Snag Control on the car screen. It is voice first: answers are spoken, never shown, and nothing on the screen needs reading while you drive.
Requirements
- An iPhone on iOS 26.4 or later, and a car or head unit with CarPlay.
- Snag installed on the iPhone. Nothing to set up on the car.
- Capture (Snag this) works on Free. Ask an agent, Waiting on you and Parked are Pro (see Plans).
What appears on the car screen
Opening Snag on the car screen starts listening straight away: the voice screen comes up over a short list. Close it to see the list.
The voice screen
The title shows what Snag is doing:
| Title | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Listening | Snag is listening. |
| Snagged | Saved, and Snag asks "Add more, or done?". |
| Working | Saving. |
| Nothing snagged | Nothing was kept. |
| Asking | Control has the words: asking an agent, sending a job or running a command. |
On iOS 26.4 and later the voice screen also has buttons, so a touchscreen can do what the voice does: "Done" while listening, "Add more" and "Done" once snagged, "Cancel" while asking, and "Close" at the top. When a capture finishes, the voice screen closes and the list shows.
The root list
| Row | Free | Pro | Does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Snag this | Yes | Yes | Opens the voice screen for a capture. Shows "2 waiting for signal" when captures are queued. |
| Ask an agent | Yes (shows the Pro line) | Yes | Opens the voice screen for an agent. |
| Waiting on you | No | Yes | Approvals waiting. Shows the count, or "Nothing". A red dot means something is waiting. |
| Parked | No | Yes | What needs a screen. Shows the count, or "Nothing". |
The car sets light or dark; Snag follows it.
Snag this
Tap Snag this (or just start talking when Snag opens) and say it. Capture works as it does with AirPods: see Capture. A command's phrase or an agent's name in the first thing said goes to Control instead (on Pro).
Ask an agent
Tap Ask an agent and say the question. Start with an agent's name ("Ops, how did the backup go?") or the question goes to the agent set under "Ask Snag" in Control. Everything said in Snag Control by voice works here: jobs, status, "anything need me", "approve", "park it".
Answers are spoken in short chunks with "More, or park it?" between them. A Personal or Private answer is held first: "Ops has it. It's private. Say it out loud?". Only a clear yes speaks it; anything else is "Kept for later." and the answer waits in Parked.
Waiting on you
Tap Waiting on you. Snag says how many are waiting ("Two waiting.", or "Nothing needs you.") and lists up to 12 approvals: what the agent wants to do, the agent and the class ("Ops · Routine").
Tap one. What happens depends on the class, your rule for that action type (Settings > Approvals > Rules per agent on the phone) and what the agent allows in the car:
| Case | Snag says | On screen |
|---|---|---|
| Approve allowed | "Ops wants to restart the queue worker. Approve?" ("Can't be undone." for an irreversible one) | Approve or Hold |
| Needs a screen | "Ops wants to ... Parked until you've stopped." | Moved to Parked |
| Needs Face ID | "Ops wants to delete 14 snapshots. That one needs Face ID. Approve it on the phone." | Moved to Parked |
| Needs the code word, none set | "Ops wants to ... That one needs your code word." | Moved to Parked |
| Not through Snag | "That one isn't done through Snag." | Nothing changes |
| Expired | "Held." | Held |
Approve approves it: "Approved. Ops's on it." Hold leaves it in the list: "Held." The agent still has the last word: if it refuses, the item parks and Snag says the agent's reason.
Irreversible actions wait until you've stopped and need Face ID on the phone. So does anything else the agent's server, or its "Needs Face ID for" setting on the phone, asks Face ID for (see Snag Control). Snag parks these without asking the server.
The code word in the car
For an action whose rule allows "Code word" in the car, or an approval the agent's server marks as needing the code word ("Needs your code word"):
- Tap the item in Waiting on you, then Approve.
- The screen shows "Your code word" and Snag asks "Your code word?".
- Say the two words. Snag listens once, on the device only.
- The screen shows "Checking", then "Approved" or "Parked".
| Result | Snag says |
|---|---|
| The right words | "Approved. Ops's on it." |
| The wrong words, or silence | "That's not it. Parked." |
| No code word set | "Parked until you've stopped.", or "That one needs your code word." when the server asks for it |
There is one try. The code word is never said back, never shown on the car screen and never sent to the agent or its server. If CarPlay disconnects while Snag is listening, nothing is approved. An approval that needs Face ID parks, code word or not: "That one needs Face ID. Approve it on the phone." Agents on the Snag agent API never allow irreversible actions in the car, so those park too.
Set the code word on the phone under Settings > Approvals > Code word. See Snag Control.
Parked
Tap Parked for what needs a screen, up to 12 items. Each row shows what it is and why it was parked. Tap one for its details:
| Label | Shows |
|---|---|
| From | The agent. |
| Wants to | The action, for an approval. |
| Kind | Routine, Needs a confirm or Irreversible. |
| Why it's parked | For example "Parked until you've stopped.", "Waits until you've stopped." or "Needs Face ID" |
For an approval, Hear it reads the action out ("Ops wants to delete 14 snapshots. It can't be undone."). Approving a parked item happens on the phone. A parked answer shows only "An answer to hear" or "A private answer", never its words.
Free and Pro in the car
On Free, Snag this works as normal. Ask an agent shows "Snag Control is a Pro feature." with OK, and Snag says the same line. Anything said for Control (an agent's name, a command, "anything need me") gets that line and nothing is saved.
Nothing is sold in the car: no price, no offer and no "check your phone". Try Pro later on the phone.
Passenger mode
While CarPlay is connected the phone shows On the car screen ("Talk to Snag there.") with the parked count ("Waiting until you've stopped") and I'm a passenger ("Approve here, with Face ID"). Under "Driving": "Quiet on purpose. Nothing to do here."
Tap I'm a passenger to use the phone:
- The app opens on Control > Waiting on you, with a banner "I'm a passenger", "Until CarPlay disconnects" and Stop.
- Approvals on the phone work as normal, Face ID included.
- The car screen's Waiting on you shows "Passenger" at the top. Approve works by tap for anything but an irreversible action, which parks for Face ID on the phone.
- Personal and Private answers still ask "Say it out loud?". Passenger mode changes nothing there.
- Passenger mode ends when CarPlay disconnects, or on Stop.
Finished jobs
On the phone, Settings > In the car > Speak finished jobs ("Only while Snag is on the car screen"). Off by default. When on, and Snag is on the car screen and not listening, Snag says "Ops's notes are ready." when a job finishes. The notes wait in Control on the phone.
What the car never does
- Show an answer's words, a Private answer, or the code word.
- Approve anything by silence, a mishear or an expired approval.
- Approve anything that needs Face ID. It waits for the phone.
- Approve an irreversible action without the code word, or with the code word more than once.
- Sell anything, show a price, or tell you to pick up the phone.
- Go more than three screens deep.
