Two things are covered here: this website and its mailing list, and the Snag app on your phone. Each in plain words.

Who we are

Snag is made by Siftware Ltd, registered in England, company number 05778639, registered office Powys House, Market Square, Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, Powys, SY10 0JG.

Contact: hello@snag.fm.

The app

On the phone

Snag collects nothing about you. Your speech is turned into text on your iPhone, and the actions are found on your iPhone too. For a language your iPhone can't recognise by itself, Snag asks you once before it uses Apple's speech servers for that language. Say no and nothing is sent.

Captures are kept on this iPhone until they're sent. If there's no signal, a capture waits and goes when you're back online. The "Keep captures for" setting decides how long the phone keeps them afterwards: 90 days unless you change it.

Where it goes

A capture goes straight from your iPhone to the service you connect, and nowhere else. We don't store your captures on any server. The app has no ads, no analytics, no crash reporting and no third-party SDKs. If you've chosen to share crash reports with app developers in your iPhone's settings, Apple may pass those on. What happens next depends on the destination:

Signing in to TickTick, Notion, Asana or Evernote passes through our server once, so the service can hand over access. We pass that on to your iPhone and don't keep it.

  • Your Snag account: the default. For now your Snag account is kept on this iPhone. When sync arrives, this page will say where it's stored before anything leaves your phone.
  • Your own model or backend: if you connect your own OpenAI-compatible model, your own Anthropic key or your own backend, your iPhone talks to it directly. We never see what goes to it, and that provider's terms apply.
  • Nextcloud and Obsidian: it lands on your own server or in your own vault. We never see it. Nextcloud gets the recording too; Obsidian only if you turn on saving audio.
  • Apple Reminders and Apple Notes: it goes into the app on your phone, and from there follows your own Apple settings.
  • Todoist, Microsoft To Do, OneNote, Google Tasks, TickTick, Trello, Asana, Notion, Things and Evernote: it goes to your own account with that service, and that service's privacy terms apply. They get the text only, except OneNote and Evernote, which get the recording too if you turn on including audio.
  • Email in: it goes to the inbox address you set, and the service behind that address decides what happens to it.
  • A webhook: each capture goes to the web address you set. Whoever runs that address decides what happens to it.

How long a destination keeps a capture is down to that destination.

Snag Pro

Snag Pro is coming. When it arrives, Apple will take the payment and we'll never see your card, your billing address or your Apple account details. This page will list exactly what the app keeps to switch Pro on before you can buy it.

This site and the mailing list

The site sets no cookies, runs no ads or analytics and loads nothing from other companies.

What we store when you sign up

  • your email address
  • your name and what you'd snag, if you give them
  • which list you joined (Snag's), the consent wording you agreed to, and when
  • the IP address and browser user agent the sign-up came from
  • when you confirmed, and the IP address you confirmed from

The confirmation link is stored only in a scrambled (hashed) form.

Why

To send you build updates about Snag, because you asked. That's the legal basis: your consent. The IP address, user agent and timestamps are kept as a record of that consent and to stop abuse of the form. Your answer to "what would you snag?" is read by us to decide what to build. It isn't shared.

How long

If you never confirm, everything is deleted after 7 days. If you confirm, we keep it until you unsubscribe. Unsubscribing deletes it.

Who else sees it

The sign-up form is handled by our backend, on a server we run ourselves, in a data centre in Germany (EU). Emails go out through Resend, which sees your address and the email in order to deliver them. We don't sell or share the list.

Like any website, the servers in front of this one keep short technical logs, which can include IP addresses, to keep it running and secure. Server backups may hold a copy of the list for a short time after you unsubscribe.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. The unsubscribe link in every email deletes it straight away. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
