Send to a URL
Each capture is posted as JSON to your URL: n8n, Make, Zapier or your own server.
Takes voice, notes and tasks: the text, the things to do and the task fields. No recording, photos or files.
The full payload, headers and status handling are in Webhooks.
Connect
You need a URL that accepts a POST: an n8n Webhook node, a Make custom webhook, a Zapier Catch Hook, or your own endpoint.
Send to a URL is in Add a connection's Advanced group, which shows once Snag Control is on (Settings > Advanced > Show Snag Control).
- Open Settings > Connections > Add a connection > Send to a URL and tap Continue.
- Under "Where should it post?", paste the address into URL. It must start with
https://. iOS allowshttp://only for addresses on the local network. - Optional: type a shared secret into Secret.
- Tap Continue, then Make default or Not now.
Get a test URL
To see what Snag sends before pointing it at a real service, tap Get a test URL below the URL and Secret fields: "A private address that shows exactly what Snag sent. It empties after 6 hours." It is on Free.
Snag fills in URL and shows a link to the page that lists what arrives: "Test URL added. Snag something, then open the link to see it." If none can be made: "Couldn't get a test URL. Try again." Anyone with the link can see what arrives, so test with nothing private.
What it sends
A POST with a JSON body: the capture's id, kind, time recorded, locale, text and the things to do found, with the duration for voice and the task fields for a task. Photos and files are not sent; their names are listed instead.
Headers:
| Header | Value |
|---|---|
Content-Type | application/json |
Idempotency-Key | The same on every retry of a capture, so your end can drop repeats |
X-Snag-Secret | The secret, when one is set |
Options
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| URL | Where captures are posted |
| Secret | Sent in the X-Snag-Secret header. Shows "Saved, type to replace" once set. Remove the secret clears it |
Replies
| Your endpoint answers | Snag |
|---|---|
| Any 2xx | Delivered |
| 401 or 403 | Holds its captures and shows "Check the secret". Snag says "That URL refused the secret." Fix the secret on the connection page |
| 404 or 410 | Refused: "The webhook refused the capture (HTTP 404)." in the Snagged list |
| 408, 409, 429 or 5xx, or no answer | Tries again later. A 429 with Retry-After waits that long |
Send a test
The connection page has Send a test. It posts a sample capture (kind "test", text "Test from Snag") with the same headers and says what came back: "Sent. It answered 200.", "It answered 401. Check the secret." (401 or 403), or "It answered 500." for anything else.
Limits
- An address that is not a web address shows "That isn't a web address."
- A capture sent while the URL is empty waits.
